The Spark Behind My Romance Fantasy Idea

People always ask writers: “Where do your ideas come from?” And honestly, sometimes I don’t even know. But with this story, I remember the exact moment it struck me—like lightning that refused to leave.

It started with a simple “what if?”

What if How to Train Your Dragon was gender-swapped… and written for adults?

That thought lodged itself in my head and wouldn’t budge. I went to bed that night with dragons soaring across my imagination, and I woke up the next morning with the same fire burning. It wasn’t just a passing daydream—it was a story that demanded to be told.

From there, it snowballed. The characters came first: a heroine caught between fear and wonder, princes with the power to burn the world for her, and dragons that weren’t just background creatures but the very heart of the tale. I began sketching scenes, weaving in the romance and danger, the ache of forbidden love, and the thrill of discovering hidden magic.

As I built the plot, I realised it was something familiar yet entirely new—like if How to Train Your Dragon, Fourth Wing, and ACOTAR had a baby. The sweeping adventure, the heart-stopping romance, the dragons at the centre of it all—yet it twisted into its own shape, unique and undeniably mine.

Since that first “what if,” this story hasn’t let me go. It’s the kind of idea that curls itself into your heart and refuses to leave until you write it. It’s grown from a spark into an entire world—one I can’t wait to share.

Because sometimes, the best stories don’t come from searching—they come from that single, random, impossible thought that won’t let you sleep until you bring it to life.
